Critique #2

The artist of my painting is R. Vernon. This is a painting of Jesus and two inmates. The title of the painting is “Jesus and inmates.” The medium of this photo is some type of paint using both cool and warm colors. The subject matter is respect. The painting is of Jesus reaching out his arms to two inmates and bringing them into the heart which is filled with the sun and bright colors.
The allusion that this painting shows is that inside the heart represents happier times and a new life. The bird in the air and Jesus’ arms reaching out creates a sense of movement. The juxtaposition of the heart separates the good and the bad times of the two people. The light and the fading of the picture gives it a sense of space. The artist put darker colors on the bottom of the picture because those were the bad times and dark colors represent bad times. However, he put warm colors in the background and in the heart because those represent the good times. The bad times and good times give the picture a good contrast. The focal point of the picture is Jesus helping the two inmates into better times and a new life. The two people and the images of all the bad things are the foreground of the painting and have the most detail. The detail in the painting gives it a sense of texture.
The focal point of this picture is Jesus having respect for the two people and helping them into better times. If you look at this painting you can see a narrative that is told. Even though these people are inmates and have done bad things in their life, Jesus still has respect for them. He is trying to help them into better times and helping them into a new life to start over. This teaches people to try and have respect for everyone. Even though people might not always be good, to have respect for them is the right thing to do. I think the images of all the bad things and Jesus reaching out to help them enhances the composition and makes it more effective.
